Allowances

Benefits
There are many benefits and allowances which can be taken advantage of when preparing your income tax return. These benefits are dependent on your income level. They are granted and paid by the Dutch tax authorities.

There are 4 benefits which you may be entitled to:

Healthcare allowance
The Healthcare allowance is a contribution towards the cost of your health insurance. The amount of the allowance is dependent on your (aggregate) income. If your (and your partner's combined) income is too high you will not receive the allowance.

Who receives the healthcare allowance?
If you pay Dutch health insurance premiums you can receive the healthcare allowance providing you meet the conditions. If you have a partner you must apply for the allowance together with them. Children under the age of 18 are not eligible for the healthcare allowance. They are insured free of charge until the age of 18.

Dependent child budget
The dependent child budget is a contribution towards the costs of raising children up to the age of 18 years. The dependent child budget is received in addition to the child bonus. The amount you receive depends on:

Requests are usually not necessary
You usually do not have to apply to receive the dependent child budget. You will be notified by us if we determine that you are eligible.

Rental allowance
Rental allowance is a contribution towards your rental costs. If you live in rental accommodation you may be eligible for this allowance depending on your situation.

Childcare allowance
The childcare allowance is a contribution towards the costs of childcare. The amount of the allowance depends on your income, the number of dependent children you have going to daycare and the number daycare hours for which you are entitled to the allowance.
