Consumers want access to credit rating

More and more consumers are asking for access to their credit rating from the Credit Registration Office (BKR). Last year, the number increased for the second year straight and a further increase is expected this year. This emerged from the BKR annual report published on Wednesday 4th of May.

Trial Period
The total number of data requests was 119,200 last year. That is 1.2 percent more than in 2009 and almost 6 percent more than in 2008. “Consumers have a growing need for insight,” says director Peter van den Bosch from BKR. Currently there is a trial period aimed at ensuring that every Dutch person can retrieve their details quickly.

BKR registration
The total number of people registered at the Credit Registration Office was 9.2 million last year. In 2009 there were 11.5 million people registered at BKR. The decline occurred because among others telecommunication companies had withdrawn themselves from the credit registration system. Households with serious arrears at the Tax Office, the Central Judicial Collection Agency (CJIB) or social services are now not in view, according to van den Bosch.

BKR announced in January that they aim to respond more to the needs of consumers by making access possible via the internet.
