Abolition of “VAR” declaration

Further to our earlier report headed “’VAR’ declaration about to be abolished” we would remind you that the “VAR” declaration (or Independent Contractor Status declaration) is indeed being abolished with effect from the first of May next, to be replaced by a new regime under the Netherlands Act on the Deregulation of Independent Contractor Status or “DBA” for short. The transition period from 1 May 2016 to 1 January 2017 can be used to get used to the new regime and enable principals and contractors to adjust their modus operandi.

Income tax

The first of May is the deadline for filing your income tax return. Those who have filed prior to the first of April of this year can count on receiving the Tax and Customs Administration’s response by the first of July.
