Motor vehicle taxes

The motor vehicle taxes will change in 2015.

With effect from 2015 only carbon-neutral motor vehicles will qualify for private motor vehicle cum motorcycle tax (“BPM”) exemption, whereas diesel-fuelled cars and cars that run on other types of fuel will all be charged at the same BPM rate.

As diesel-powered cars will still be liable for a CO2-related surcharge, it may make sense for you to purchase a car before year-end 2014.

! The motor vehicle tax regime during 2016 only will feature a half-rate for (semi) electric vehicles with CO2 emission of (less than) 50 gr/km compared with total exemption for carbon-neutral electric vehicles. The top three private motor vehicle cum motorcycle tax rates are to go up in 2016.
